Sierra Leone Unites was born out of the desire to provide a growing youth population in Sierra Leone an alternative to violence, hate, prejudice, extremism and self-destruction by promoting peace, hope, love, reconciliation, non-violence, innovation, education, artistic expression and conflict transformation. Established by five young Sierra Leoneans who hailed from the, West, North, East and Southern regions of Sierra Leone on the 3rd of February, 2019, Sierra Leone Unites has become a powerful voice of youths from Bombali, Koinadugu, Bo, Kenema, Western Area Urban, Western area Rural, Kambia and Pujehun districts who expressed greater dreams of hope for Sierra Leone by joining a Youth movement for Hope and Reconciliation. Sierra Leone Unites is part of the Global Unites movements with local chapters in 15 countries across the world. The main elements of the youth question are how Sierra Leone Unites responds to the challenges created by misguided youths in the past and how to restore youths as productive members of their communities.
By examining youth participation in the war, the movement therefore exists to address issues of hate, prejudice, violence, corruption and poverty using youths as agents of change.
Over the years the movement has engaged youth on issues like nonviolence, conflict transformation, climate change, civic responsibility, education, women’s empowerment and youth leadership and how it is important for an individual, communities and the country at large to work towards justice and an inclusive Sierra Leonean Identity. Today, Sierra Leone Unites recruited more than 150 volunteers in Bo, Kambia, Pujehun, Western Area Urban, Western Area Rural, Kenema, Bombali and Koinadugu Districts. With these volunteers, the work of Sierra Leone Unites to inspire, connect and equip the next generation of Peacebuilders and national leaders continues.
