Sierra Leone Unites Engaged 30 Members Of 2 Ghettos In Makeni

23 youths, 4 adults and 3 children were engaged on the 6th and 7th December 2022 at Zazi Ghetto and Station Clan Base Ghetto in Makeni. The key messages were embracing peace and nonviolence including the need to mitigate and avoid drug and substance abuse and addiction. The team also provided counselling for the ghetto members with the goal to establish a brotherhood and build a community of resilience and committed family.

During the session, Sierra Leone Unites was able to understand the primary causes for the increase in drug abuse and why these people find themselves in the ghetto.

At the end of the engagement, it was clear that youth who find themselves in Ghettos are willing to engage in skills development programs and go back to school. It was also clear that there is a need for resolution to intra family disputes and disagreements between ghetto youths and their families.

Sierra Leone Unites continues to be an influential voice to youth in Sierra Leone so that they can be productive members of their communities.
